Chris Lane, VHC Health President and CEO, on Philanthropy
After joining VHC Health in March 2022, President and CEO Chris Lane has settled into the work of guiding the system in its goal of delivering the highest possible quality of healthcare to the community. We asked him about the role philanthropy plays in achieving that goal.
Why is Philanthropy Important in Healthcare?
Philanthropy has never been more important in healthcare than it is today. Hospitals and health care systems across the state and the country are facing significant financial challenges due to soaring costs. But strong philanthropic support has allowed VHC Health to continue to live its mission to be the best health system. Without the generous support of our Foundation and community, there are many services that our hospital would not be able to provide to the community. The impact philanthropy has had on VHC Health and the greater Arlington community is phenomenal. The support we have received has undoubtedly made our health system and community a better place.
What Challenges Are You Passionate About Solving?
Access to care is certainly a challenge that affects every community across the country. I’m proud that VHC Health has taken a leading role to close health equity gaps in our community specifically through the Outpatient Clinic and Pediatrics Clinic.
In addition, we are proactively identifying social determinants of health that impact the communities we serve. We are working to expand population health initiatives—such as better diabetes prevention and management—for under-resourced and underserved populations in the future.
A huge thank you to all who donate to VHC Health and make such a profound and meaningful impact across our region.
