VHC Health proudly dedicated the plaza outside the newly completed 250,000-square-foot Outpatient Pavilion in memory of Raymond Schwartz, MD.

Dr. Schwartz, who passed away on March 24, 1990, was a key figure in VHC Health’s history when it was Arlington Hospital. His leadership during his tenure as chief of medical services (1946-1956) and chief of staff (1956-1962) led to the establishment of critical medical units, including the coronary care unit and intensive care unit. Along with other early pioneers, Dr. Schwartz was also instrumental in helping the hospital achieve medical residency affiliation with Georgetown University. He strongly believed that having university-based medical students was essential to excellence in patient care.
